Trumpeter - Educator - Arranger

Josh Ferrer is a musician based out of the Los Angeles area. He is commonly referred to as "the workhorse" amongst some of his colleagues because of his versatility and flexibility to be able to play any style of music under any situation. Because of his versatility, Josh has become a successful and sought out trumpet player on the West Coast.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Josh began playing the trumpet at the age of 12 and has since performed for audiences around the world. He attended Citrus College where he studied trumpet under Charley Davis and Bob Slack. While there, Josh studied Jazz with Bill Hoehne, Alex Galvan and also studied classical trumpet with Dave Evans. After attending Citrus College, Josh went on to continue his study of music at Azusa Pacific University, where he studied Jazz with Tom Hynes and Josh Welchez.

Josh has had the opportunity to work with and perform alongside many wonderful musicians and artists like Josh Groban, Sammy Nestico, Jimmy Borges, Frank Stallone, Steve Tyrell, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr, Dani Moz, Desi Valentine, Luis Coronel, Renee Olstead, Dale Kristien, Dave Damiani and Aubrey Logan, just to name a few. Josh has also had the pleasure of playing with bands like Kylan Road, Browder Sister, The Walcotts, Phat Cat Swinger, No Vacancy Orchestra, Top Shelf Brass Band, Bear Brass, Back Porch Brass, Clare Fischer Big Band, Ron King Big Band, Late Night Jazz Orchestra, David Ricard Big Band, and the Don Kubec Big Band, along with many others. Josh has also performed at well known venues like the Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Fillmore in San Francisco, The Rose Bowl, The Colts Stadium, El Ray Theatre, Microsoft Theatre (formally Nokia Theatre), Belasco Theater, Orpheum Theatre, Show Box Theatre in Seattle, and many more!

In 2011, Josh began playing trumpet at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA as herald trumpeter for the Christmas Fantasy Parade. In 2014, Josh was then hired on to play "Clyde" with Five and Dime, a 1920's & 30's sextet playing some of your favorite jazz standards, inside Disney's California Adventure. From June 2018 to its closing in September 2019, Josh also played trumpet in the Pixarmonic Orchestra at the resort. In addition to playing at Disney, Josh plays at other amusement parts around the SoCal area. In 2014, Josh was brought in to play lead trumpet at SeaWorld with the Sea Street Band and in 2015, he was brought in to play with The Chameleons at the world famous San Diego Zoo, where he performs regularly.

Josh also has the pleasure of working with some of the best entertainment companies in the world providing the highest caliber of entertainment. Josh exclusively works with Downbeat LA. Whether it be at a wedding, corporate event or party, you can find Josh confidently demonstrating his versatile playing in horn sections with Downbeat LA.

From 2016 to the beginning of 2019, Josh joined LALA Brass, a brass band based in Los Angeles, consisting of some of LA's best young players, that plays anything from Traditional Jazz to arrangements of the top Pop songs out today. Here you can find Josh demonstrating his versatility with lots of lead trumpet and tasty solos.

Josh's musical influences include Louie Armstrong, Doc Severinsen, Nicholas Payton, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews and Tom Harrell.

Josh currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. When not playing music, Josh loves to travel and photograph the world as he sees it.

 

 

Josh plays on a Bach Stradivarius 37 with a Bach 1 1/2C and a Bob Reeves 43.5SVsl for lead work.
